What a pointless, empty holiday that's always being shoved down your throat. To 'honour' it, and as a template response to all future 'how did you celebrate the New Year' question, I'm publishing this video.
Where I live people get lots of days off in Jan. But life starts to slow down around Dec the 28th. Every year may vary, but generally one marks the period of Dec 29th-Jan 14 as a dead season.
Jan 7 is our Christmas, Jan 14 - get it - the Old New Year!)))))))) Thats when the New Years Eve used to be, before calendar change.
Im happy when people get time off, but all together, for more than a couple of days - Im not that philanthropic!))))

What I have found is that we adhere to so many beliefs when in reality they are just fallacies. You mention that we are told that if you get a degree you will get a good job. It's a deeply ingrained belief in modern society that we educate people and then give them good jobs. Is that true or does the real world show it's just a fallacy? We are told that boy meets girl, they fall in love and have lovely children and live happily ever after. Again, another fallacy?

People tend to live with a lot of received opinions that they never challenge. Evolutionarily, this trait was useful as it saved us plenty of time that we otherwise would have spent dwelling upon every little thing. So we just receive and save plenty of wide-spread beliefs. However, it may proof useful to sometimes re-evaluate our viwes and perform some reality-check. |

First I want to say that I agree whith you about this holiday and well, because i\'m not too sociable i tend to talk about how meaningless this holiday is every new years eve so everyone around me will have a shit holiday because i always ruin it. But because you talked about bad music on tv on new years eve I\'m really curious about what kind of music you listen to, what bands or musicians you like?

My musical tastes are complicated. I like lots of genres, but quite picky about each composition in that genre. Pop, instrumental, rock, rock-n-roll, even some folk songs... All depends on my mood. The important thing is, when I listen to pop, I try to pick the language I can't understand, so I don't have to realize what bullshit they're singing about while I enjoy the happy tune.)) And on TV, its usually all the pop I can understand, with the dumb lyrics, so that pisses me off. |
