02-10-2015 Neat clip. How do I not know of this film? Seems like something I should've seen ages ago.Hey seeing as you seem to enjoy highly irreverent takes on philosophers, you'll probably like: http://existentialcomics.com/comic/3 I've read through about 20 of these and they're all winners. Not a single dud yet. |

02-10-2015 If we're doin' movies, have you seen either of these two, Irina?Monty Python and the Holy Grail (70s) Repo Man (original 80s) Both are rather funny. Repo Man has some really well-done scenes, not sure how easy the movie is to find though... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewwKExvkqXQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcJXT5lc1Bg Ordinary f*'in people, I hate 'em! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Axq71RFAYgo Put it on a plate, son, you'll enjoy it more. |

Monty Python and the Holy Grail didn't impress me much, despite all the positive recommendations from friends. Repo Man from the few mintes I've watched from your youtube clips are also kind of 'meh'. Maybe there's something more cultural there that I don't quite relate to. One of my friends told me he go a lot of kicks from Monty Python because of his experience with Catholic Church. I've never been to one so... I don't know, I kind of suffered thru that Holy Grail and shrugged my shoulders. |

Meanwhile, you'll probably find some good company among the commenters... Yeah right. Nice try, Rinka, but there's no way you're passing the buck with this one. I'll happily go toe to toe for twelve rounds with Kirky boy or theMeme (or hip to hip with you ), ContraCowCrapMan is another kettle of fish altogether. Reading and trying to understand just one of his sentences takes a full bottle of industrial strength Ritalin and I'd sooner learn Russian, read War & Peace in the original language and do a doctoral thesis on it than try to work my way through the nuances of his posts. @El CapitГЎn, Seen both and love 'em. I also got around (finally) to listening to that Sarah Perry interview you posted. Thanks for that, it was really good and I appreciate you sharing it. |

Yeah right. Nice try, Rinka Reading and trying to understand just one of his sentences takes a full bottle of industrial strength Ritalin and I'd sooner learn Russian Lol that's true, I have to make several calls to my hot-key English dictionary which then returns nothing and so then try googling, and on top of linguistic queries the philosophical dictionary queries follow ))) It's very educational but a time consuming task to first decript and only then think over the message))) |

04-10-2015 @Irina I think humor is very contextual, and understanding the truth behind it is important for it to be funny. Repo Man hits on so many cultural habits of Americans that the cans of generic "Food" or "Drink" or the back and forth banter about having a Code to Live By while snorting cocaine highlights the stupidity of the general population's ideas and habits. Without that cultural background, it might be very hard to see the humor in it.There are English shows such as Bennie Hill that are just silly to me, not humorous at all, and of course plenty of American shows that are just as low brow. But, for instance, Sienfeld is just genius *if* you understand American culture, it is just spot on. And, for instance, I have yet to find a Spanish language comedy that I like at all, which may be because I didn't grow up with the culture and don't understand the references. I think music is very personal, too, and so much influenced by nurture, that it can be hard to share as well. re: philosphical verbiage I usually try to keep presentations of ideas as simple as possible, using necessarily precise vocabulary when needed, but otherwise avoiding overly complicated dialogues. Years of teaching and working as a professional engineer has taught me that even the simple approach can send rockets hurtling into the sun or cars off a bridge, so misunderstandings have to be kept to a minimum, and use of clean and simple language facilitates this. I have found that many times people lose sight of the objective, and get tied up in knots over minor details that don't contribute much to solving the general problem under consideration. |

12-12-2015 funny .. but ,, if we nail some relative or remote immortality in our time.. via cloning and successful cryo.. we might entertain some of this future mans delights.....hating on something that simply does not exist.. hmm.. and the intent disclosed seems to ruination of a greater scope than just this idealise, to hate.. and if we are very lucky, and very diligent.. i wont forgo the purely miraculous and maybe quite wholly impossible.. that if time enough might pass.. that our limits are really almost unpresent.. could it be, that we might.. maybe.. eventually discover what it takes to move through time ? ... just hear me out, for only a moment.. should we progress and so succeed in much of our endeavors.. at some impossibly far off point in time.. is there a certainty that our knowing of how to find some measure to flux thru time will never be found ?.... and there is the posit.. silly or not, hope be such a horrid thing.. a contemptable conjecture, i still give us accreditations to such greatness in the proper and best of formats that we could muster..- that there may be remote chance to .. such science fiction .. and possibility .. maybe.. ...progress will happen, the future comes with or without us.. but, i contend to be with and in it, if i might, if i can, and do some small bit, or great, to model, manifest, make, and purge of what it will be... meh.. i could happen...idk 8 ) ..and dont think i can delude myself in Anything that Is.. or wile myself on some flighty imagination.. this, i simply cannot do... but id does not relinquish a formula that may be sound.. that plight of reality conforming to us, or us conforming to reality.. still one holds far greater weight in the balance.. at least in my perspective.. and with luck.. change is not impossible oh.. and put my junk up.. its awesome.. ha.. nah.., idk wtf it is.. but.. maybe its good enough "to be" - or good enough "to is" lov n spect the great urina.. lovely and wise - learned and immutable, - should she have ever been, even only an idea alone.. yes, that good.. 8 ) |
