'Bangkok Hilton'. Breaking free:
just kidding.))
it is +31C in Bangkok ... at 7 am. Gets up to 45 in afternoon. Somehow it's fine. I think humidity helps.
Bible in the hotels? Nope. But there's Buddha's teachings:
And so we were converted to Buddhism and went on our first shrine to see the Sleeping Buddha in Bangkok:
I think he's an oozing Buddha since his eyes are not fully closed.
then I remembered, I needed to put on some lipstick!
These are very interesting. Whatever they are. Monks should know...
Probably picturing reincarnation:
and some 'Da Vinci code':
Remember to spend some time near the rooftop pools in Bangkok. It's quiet, clean air and great view from floor 25 or higher.
Then go see some weird statues and people praying near them.
so we prayed that we magically appeared on Ko Samui island and it was a success!
welcome to Ko Samui:
try young coconut juice!
it's good for you though, you'll outlive all your friends and relatives drinking that. cool, right? i know.
better enjoy some swimming in the infinity pool overlooking the sea. well, if you go to the actual sea remember to wear a tight fit swimming suit or those waves can undress you very easily. freaking sea harassment!
Get a load of those views:
almost every morning started like this:
it was our villa's balcony. oh and the fruits we ate on that terrace!!
i feel so deprived now! passion fruit tastes wonderful. also helps make amazing alcoholic cocktails!
but remember, we're non alcoholics anonymous!
menus in Thailand are great source of giggles. try some mushroom omret with fried gee and Barcadi beverage:
shoud we call it "Thinglish"? like they call "Chinglish" that Chinese English 'dialect'?
To be fair, if I was asked to write a menu in Thai, It'd probably be as much fun. Unless it'd have gotten me in jail for obscenity)))
But Thais seem friendly. Or at least they seem non-violent, cool and laid back and minding their own business. With some exceptions, of course, like that angry monk who yelled something at me as I was trying to approach Big Buddha wearing such indecent outfit as this:
thing is, i'd asked hotel stuff if i should go back to fetch my scarf to cover my - irresistably sexy, ruining every monk's meditation and fasting schedule - shoudlers, but he said it was ok to go like this. Well, not for that angry monk pointing at this ridiculous sign which seem to feature his personal porn collection right there:
I wasn't wearing any of that, decisively not! But seriously, there's a smarter way to inform people which parts of the body should be covered. Instead of publishig several naughty pictures, publish one that features the required minimum of clothes. lol
We saw those free scarves but decided to pass. Other people have worn them. Sweaty people. No. And to buy a new one 3 times the price from sellers nearby - no again. And the stairs were too high, and the Buddha was already visible anyway, so we took pictures right there and went to see other things.
hey, this is a nice selfie!
and this one here is probably the best place we've been to atmosphere wise. on the sea shore, sitting on pillows, smoking a water pipe and sipping passion fruit cocktails. these are some people in front of us:
to protect your feet from all sorts of things in the sea I recommend these shoes:
and this is near our villa. pretty much livin in the garden, overlooking the sea, 10 meters away from the pool and the canteen. that's hard to beat.
but all good things come to an end. hell, you're lucky if they even begin once in a while, right?
You can see some more pictures on my Facebook.

Looks like a great trip, Irina! Maybe I'll go some day. You should. Also, relatively cheap. USD rate is 1 to 30+, so you can get that "fried gee" in a restaurant for 60-70cents. But I recommend pad thai. a plant pod seed which FREAKED ME OUT! Jezuz. You mean that ashtray full of holes? Or the dragon fruit with black seeds on white background? Thanks to you - for mentioning trypophobia - I feel nauseous now because I googled it. Don't do it! There are pictures! Bleh! F.! Had a good chat with 'Trick about free will, possibilities, physics, etc.. Oooh nice. Facebooking lately? Or did you find him on his website? Well, I hope this newest "friend" doesn't keep you away for too long No, he won't. I've got plenty of things to do on my own though. Need to keep some balance between them all, but I can sometimes get carried away with one thing over the other. Kind of like it better than schedule, makes you feel more alive and free to be able to prioritize things according to what you feel like doing today. |

And I have already feared that you stayed there and became a buddhist nun or something! (even bald you would look great, i am sure
![]() I think its kind of ironic that there are statues and icons of a guy who probably discouraged such things. (and these were absent in early Buddhism anyway). Tell people how much live really sucks, and that the only way to transcended or overcome suffering is trough some sort 'mental suicide', and people will start to fabricate a religion in your name! But however, I never was in Thailand and I wonder how relevant Theravada Buddhism is there in everyday life, outside of temples and monasteries. As much as I dislike religion and superstitions, i do enjoy religious art and even think that religious rituals are kind of cute (i just cant help myself there) |

I think its kind of ironic that there are statues and icons of a guy who probably discouraged such things Exactly. how relevant Theravada Buddhism is there in everyday life Can't say by just being there for 2 weeks. Think better watch some documentaries on Youtube to find an answer to that. I actually heard in one of them this Thai guy saying that religion is not so popular any more with younger generation, it's on the decline. But when we drove around that island near locals' houses we saw a lot of these cute things (spirit houses, aparently). |

@Irina It's the seed pod of a plant I can't remember the name of. For some reason florists love to put that in arrangements and even thinking about it is giving me serious creeps right now. I've had this phobia since I was very small, I just didn't know everyone didn't have it and that it had a name. Supposedly it is a remnant of evolution to keep me away from poisonous animals and plants, particularly reptiles/frogs, that tend to have these type patterns or actually regularly space holes, for some reason. There is also a frog that carries its young in its back in pits that I can't even think about.
Weirdly, 'Trick and I started on the AN group on FB and moved to about a 50 reply dialogue! I guess the moderator didn't mind because we weren't blocked, and I added a tie-in to AN at the end to make everybody happy. |

No, why would you get blocked, this question pops up now and then, along with veganism and some others. Though there's a dedicated Facebook group 'Trick may have told you about, called The Illusion of Free Will. |

Welcome back, Irina! Those pictures are amazing. It looks like you had a blast. You sure picked the right time of year to go to a warm location; it's freezing in Kiev, I'm sure
![]() Thailand is on my list of places to go. |

Thanks. Not freezing the past couple of days, even some sun, but yeah, it's getting there, some days really harsh cold. Thailand is very hot. I went in the relatively low season, which I enjoyed especially because lots of space, few people and prices are lower. And there wasn't much rain at all, and only 1 mosquito bugged me once, other times I hardly seen any 'bloodsuckers' :) But technically you can get Denge fever from them and that's not pleasant. |

I'm glad you didn't get the Denge fever
![]() Any other trips planned? I don't have any but want to take one in a year or so. Maybe Iceland. |

@Irina We have something similar to those spirit houses here in San Antonio, except they are catholic and have saints in them. They sit out in the yards in the rain, heat, etc. but religion still rules. I think a lot of people have them to ensure the Spurs basketball team continues to win a lot, because I have heard gawd really appreciates basketball.

I can't remember where you were talking about Darth Vader running for office, but if you haven't seen this it's funny, IMO.

Had a good chat with 'Trick about free will, possibilities, physics, etc.. He's got a good mind, and it was good to be able to discuss my agnostic ideas about logic and free will with him.
Well, I hope this newest "friend" doesn't keep you away for too long, but I know it'll be time-consuming for a time while you settle into whatever it is you are settling into!
