First experiment with polymer clay figurines: dreamy yellow cat))
Now this is my first ever (!) figurine using polymer clay. Back when I was a kid I used to like playing with plasticine. My parents though weren't quite happy because they kept finding pieces of plasticine all around the house)))
Nothing special, very simple, no special techniques, coating, coloring or anything. I just love this silly cat as my very first polymer clay charachter.
So that's what I spent my yesterday evening on: making beads, pendants and figurines from clay. Just bought a pasta-machine, slicers and a couple of glazes. Still lacking a few cutters and shaping tools to let my imagination loose. But I'm enjoying the process already.
It's good to have hobbies.

I took up this hobby mainly because I wanted to make custom beads for my jewelry but I still made this yesterday: looked better when I was working on it, but it got stuck to the mat, so when I was taking it off to put in the oven it got skewed because the clay was so tender. I've compared the brands and types of clay and picked my favorite. One of the clays (this blue one) was way too soft, to the point that it was almost melting in my hands. Perhaps its best for kids so they don't have to apply any pressure to condition it. Anyway, here are some beads I made yesterday. Ran out of chains, so couldn't finish the necklace, but you get the idea. This jewelry seems to be perfect for summer. Reminds me of sea. |

now I feel like an arrogant ass because I rated your art, as if my opinion matters... that being the roses and jewelry is really good, I am impressed. The blue cat thing is cute, I hope to see more of this.

Oh, no problem. I actually thought B+ was quite good for this figurine i put together in about 1 minute. I'm quite critical of my creations, too. I just have an attachment to them because I made them :) All in all I think ratings are not important, you've got to just love what you do and as long as you enjoy the process it makes sense to continue. Of course, if you're doing smth for sale you may want to pay attention to how others perceive your art. Are you working with traditional (mineral) clay or polymer? |

traditional self drying red clay, but it cracks a lot when its hardens which sucks... not sure if its the clay itself or if I'm doing something wrong, but yeah...

back at school we worked with traditional clay. but then we'd bake it in the oven to make it stronger. im no expert on the types of clay, but this seems to suggest self hardening clay isn't the best possible choice. i imagine its pretty frustrating to have invested time and effort into smth that cracks soonafter.(( |
I have recently taken up the interest in clay sculpting... my latest project will be Rammstein's Engel, but I am procrastinating... seems like everyone in my corner of youtube has become extremely artistic lately, its weird...
