Creative stuff has always absorbed me, since childhood. Only my hobbies change, my love for creating something doesn't. Anyway, I've been playing with polymer clay quite a bit lately. Instead of writing this blog on my spare time. So I thought I'd share some of my experiments here.
Ok, the most interesting is sculpting this life-like woman. Hey, especially with breast like that
This is my first try at sculpting a human body (unless u count trying it once in plasticine back in childhood).
First, here is some work in progress (so you don't think I bought a ready-made figurine hehe)
I know, it was silly to be attaching an arm so early, but not a tragedy.
This here is still an unfinished sculpture, the head isn't even attached to the body, I just put it on top to take the shot as I let the clay sit and cool down a bit.
Then after sculpting some more I had to put my 'Eve' away and go to sleep. Here's how it looked:
Headless horseman, eh? )) Ok, boobs are grabbing way too much attention (I wouldn't know coz I don't have that problem unless I wear a push-up bra which I never have but enough about me :D). I promise I'll take her silicon implants out later.
Funny thought came to mind while I was sculpting some parts and having a bit of difficulty in the process: 'If you're pulling your hair out trying to sculpt a human - use it to make a nice hairdo for your sculpture'.
Actually, I could've used all that hair I cut the other day, but I decided to leave it at the hairdresser's. ))
[You can see the brand of the clay I'm using. Not on purpose, it was just the closest stand to put the sculpture on but then I thought, why not? Maybe some people would've asked what the material was anyway. So now you know.]
Anyway, I'll get back to making my woman (hehe) and not writing a blog for now.

Update 25 October 2012
Here is how she looks today.
I gave her some flowers to hold now that her head is fixed on her shoulders)) But that's just temporary. The neck is a bit short, I'll give it an extra vertebra tomorrow. I put wires and toothpicks inside because this clay is a bit too soft to hold the pose of a figurine for an extended period of time, but it feels easy to shape so thats good.

Update 30 October 2012
Ok, after a rather good weekend spent on partying and recovering from partying , I've finally decided to finish my first female sculpture yesterday night. I'm way too impatient to concentrate on small details, so I haven't even tried to sculpt her fingers or toes properly. I've also conveniently skipped on ears. That's what people with ADHD do :D Anyway, here's the final result:
Unfortunately, it's a gloomy autumn day with not enough natural light for good pictures, and I hate artificial light or flash so those were the best shots I got.

Update 02 November 2012. Sunny day. Better shot. Also, I though she should have some jewelry on, albeit simple chain jewelry.
Next time, I should make something more dynamic and lively...))

Fine pieces of art,IMO. If you got the proportions, shapes and anatomical details out of your own intuition (no anatomy book, I mean), congrats. But even if you did consult whatever, your command of the clay remains stunning... Loved the life-like natural postures too! |

Thank you, Zenner And good to see you on my blog again. No, I get the proportions from memory (of how people look :D). I hate going by the books in anything and love the process of exploring and experimenting. It is only after my experiments fail miserably that I may turn to some tutorials or recipies for the hints. |

Really cool stuff.
BTW, thx for the Zapffe video tweet. I see you post your links on twitter. Do you visit twitter much? Lots of great antinatalist discussions taking place on there |

Hey, Jesse. Thanks! Nope, I don't actually use Twitter personally, I just have a medium post my RSS feed there and likes from Youtube and such. Whenever I hear the combination of 'Twitter' and 'discussion' I tend to laugh. )) Seems to me a bit sado-masochistic to be having a serious debate while your posts are restricted to 140 charachters. Reminds me of an old joke that goes like '- Hey, I like you, lets have sex! - All right, but only while standing on top of a hammock. - Why? - I enjoy overcoming difficulties!' |

Jajaja, it's not bad, the old joke!
And I love the final result, charmingly static is perfect for a start.... (if that is the shampoo cap, what a great idea!, looks like science fiction, I mean, like Star Trek couch) |

haha) yes, I also get the science-fictiony vibe when I look at it. I've never seen Star Trek though, but I know it was mega popular abroad. |
