I've already mentioned how juicing parsley has helped me personally to keep my eyes health and continue working at the computer.
In this post, I'm going to show you what juicing looks like in my kitchen. Well, except for the washing part that can ruin the magic of "Juiciism" for the newly converted believers
a) Wash the selected fruits and veggies
b) Juice them
c) Pour the juice into glasses with half a teaspoon of extra-virgin olive oil (oil is needed by our body to convert beta-carotene into vitamin A)
Btw, I'm using the Bosch MES 3000 juicer. Quite happy with it. Had a smaller and a less powerful before, it produced much less juice and I had to cut everything into little pieces. With this one I'm just throwing whole apples, get lots of juice and the pulp comes out dry as it should be.
Now the 'main' juice is ready. I juice parsley separately because I don't want its flavour in all juice, I prefer to drink parsley first and then enjoy thetaste of fruits-veggies juice.
d) wash some parsley (I usually use a bit more than on the photo, this was all I had left)
e) bend the parsley and put it in the juicer
f) cheers!
Tip: Wet parsley gives more juice. When its leaves are completely dry, they simply get shredded into tiny pieces, whereas slightly wet they are turned into juice.
The health benefits of juicing have been widely described on various internet resources. I'm just going to sum up some basic facts.
Fruit juices mostly contain vitamins, while vegetable juices are righ in minerals. Our body needs both.
When you start juicing you may want to start from small doses so as to let your body get used to it.
Fruit juices can elevate your sugar levels for some period of time, so if you have to control your sugar level, keep this in mind.
Read about a fruit, vegetable or herb that you are going to juice. Some veggies are not recommended for people with certain conditions, some need to be consumed only in small amounts.
You might expirience the so called 'healing crisis' or 'detox crisis' at some point in time after you've started juicing regularly. It means the healing process have started and your organism is getting rid of the toxins. The process can manifest in fever or flu symptoms, nausea, digestive system disorders. I read such crisis could happen when you start juicing, but have never experienced it. So, maybe you won't either.
I juice because I believe we all need vitamins and nutrients in their natural forms. Not every synthetical vitamin is absorbed and used by our body, sometimes supplements are a waste of time (and money), although I'm pro supplements in general (better than nothing).
I also think we need to consume live cells and enzymes, contained in plants.
So, why not just eat the stuff? Yes, you could just eat the products without juicing them. I just don't envision myself nibbling a carrot every day or a piece of beetroot, or eating half a lemon. Juicing is easier because you can juice lots of different things and drink them in one glass. It also disciplines you as otherwise you could have simply forgetten to eat a piece of this, then a piece of that.
Of course, one glass of juice will hardly cover all needs for most people. But it's a valuable addition to any diet.
