"Every generation laughs at the old fashions, but follows religiously the new." ― Henry David Thoreau
You know how I find out what's fashionable? By walking in the streetes and seeing crowds of women dressed nauseatingly similar, as if they were biorobots manufactured by the same factory.
Last year, for example, I've started noticing a bunch of ladies with headbands on their forehead. All of a sudden - dozens of women with some wires wrapped around their foreheads, looking like they've all undergone a lobotomy and are now hiding the scars.
Of course, if the woman is beautiful she can wear lots of silly things and still look kind of pretty. That's not the point. The point is - conformity, lack of self-reliance and creativity. That's what I think following fashion really is. And it makes the world around boring. No, rather, it exposes the world for how boring it actually is, how obedient and non-creative an average human is. Not everyone. Some don't have enough money to follow fashion
I was the same when I was 14. I thought only losers don't follow fashion. But then I grew a little brain and started studying psychology and now I'm here arrogantly ranting about those who weren't as lucky. But wait, they might be more lucky in a sense that deep thinking about too many things tends to take away from the overall satisfaction with life. One is better off keeping their IQ lowerish to stay content.
The thing is, I don't care too much what other people are doing. I mean, sure, it is ridiculous to wait for a signal/permission to wear a certain thing, but it's not harming anybody so go ahead, perfect your imitation skills.
What annoys me more is that most everybody assumes I am interested in the latest trends. I'm just trying to buy what seems nice to me and they come up and start telling me what's fashionable about it. I'm sometimes itching to say 'shut up, zombie'.)))
I didn't have this problem recently because I liked what I saw but oftentimes, when something is fashionable, it's like a disaster: every store, every market is filled with this stupid crap and to find an alternative, which happens to be unfashionable, you have to invest a big amount of time. Naturally, everybody wants to increase sales so they purchase what zombies will buy. It's easier to ensure sales this way, right? Make a fashion, pronounce what's cool today and you already know what to sell. Predictable. Hmm...maybe I should open a store to sell fashionable shit? In which case, dear zombies, please continue following the instructions, it's all good!
But while I'm at it, I'll point out one more thing that I dislike about fashion. It's capable of making you hate beautiful things. Like a nice song that plays over and over and over - you're going to hate it pretty soon even though when you've first heard it you were amazed by it. Similarly, great models become nauseatingly generic and boring when worn at the same time by the vast majority of people.
Just look at these shoes, they're f-ing hot!
But if every other woman would be wearing them and you'd see them over and over and over every day, the 'hotness' would soon fade away to turn into 'yeah, yeah, these shoes again'.
Everything should be considered fashionable so people would look different.
... ok, maybe not that different:
...and perhaps not that different:
...and also not that different:
Dear god, deliver us from people devoid of the sense of style and aesthetics!
Oh, right, I'm an atheist.
Update. Thought this will be entertaining. Duh.

hahahahah Thanks for the good morning laugh! Men who get off on wearing womens underwear and tights will have a better excuse next time someone walks in on them trying the nylon pantyhose.))) Fashion! I never understood why men wouldn't also wear thick tights underneath the jeans in winter (it can be -18C here in Ukraine sometimes). Tights - no, never, that's for females! But this kind of tights - sure, that's appropriate: While the only difference is that these tights lack 'socks'. Nylon pantyhose on men - I don't get it. What's the point? Btw, from the latest male fashion. These fuckers. A moron's delight: What's the extra space under the butt for? In case they accidentally shit themselves? So they can't kick anyone in the stomach - the kind of binding for guys with temper? Women were offerred them too. Some wore it and looked ridiculous. Oh, this explains it: |

“What's the extra space under the butt for?
In case they accidentally shit themselves?” No, no, no, there are diapers for that. No, one word: balls. Thugs have them. And balls need space. Lots of it. In addition, do you have any idea how hard it is to squeeze a half-metre long dick into ordinary trousers? Thugs do. Not to mention that this mutation of trousers is also good for pregnant female consumers, should they suddenly give birth to their child-unit while shopping, with their hands full of bags. And pantyhose on men? Why, they wear them for the same reason women do: to show off their beautifully shaped legs. (I mean, look at that man! Rrrr. ) Are you against the emancipation of men, or what? ::wink.gif:: Granted, fashion is living proof that some things should not be done just because they can be done, and it certainly is an assault on taste, intelligence, and any sense of proportion. But are these enough to frown upon fashion when, on the other hand, it might kill us all one day by making us laugh so hard that we choke? I don't think so! |

People reading this blog have good sense of humour Are you against the emancipation of men, or what? Not at all, I'm all for male liberation! For too long men around the globe have been opressed and prohibited from wearing pantyhose. Break those chains! ehem...only thugs won't be able too, 'cause there's not much space for balls But are these enough to frown upon fashion when, on the other hand, it might kill us all one day by making us laugh so hard that we choke? I don't think so! Just check out those Walmart people - they don't follow fashion per se but still achieve the same result. The power to make people laugh is within you! Just be yourself! |

Break those chains, yeah. Though I wasn't serious about male emancipation, of course, I hope you know that. Anyway, sure, pantyhose for everybody! And bikinis!
“The power to make people laugh is within you!” Aaand…it's gone! Extinguished by the power to make everything miserable. Thanks for the fun. Look at the silly side of everything, lest we take ourselves too seriously. |

I also do not understand that competitive need to own the new fancy handbag or the new designer shoes. People would blow $10,000 to buy a highly overrated hermes birkin bag which is pretty fucking stupid because the bag looks like shit and I'm sure Hermes is laughing all the way to the bank. I admit, designer shoes are attractive and can understand why people want a pair but having swarovski crystals on them is just too much. If I had the money, I would much rather donate it to much worther causes or to give to a young person so they can purse a college degree.

Just looked at the bag on google images. I'm not sure I'd buy it if it costed $30. But I'd take it for $10 just in case I might like it one day. Granted it wasn't a bag considered to be a symbol of status - which it is - so I wouldn't buy it because I don't want to be a part of the crowd who are after such symbols. It might give some intelligent people the idea that I'm also a simple-minded follower of fashion who needs to prove her worth by buying overadvertized overpriced shit and wearing it like it was a medal of honor. As if wearing $10,000 on your hand in a world where this kind of money could cure somebody of a disease or provide numerous people clean drinking water was something to be proud of, not ashamed of. But to be fare, if we're criticizing rich people for wasting ridiculous amounts of money on toys instead of buying something of equal functionality and beauty for less and donating the rest to some causes, we better make sure that we do our part and donate whatever is available to us on a regular basis. Because surely a lot of us can spare some amount that would otherwise get spent on some useless junk. It has been observed that while a few rich people steal a lot of money a great number of average income people collectively steal much more, so if we reverse that and combine our efforts, perhaps we can make a real difference. |

That's because 90% of all people are dumb fucks.
If even a quarter of the world's population would think the way you think, the world would change dramatically for the good in the shortest amount of time. I was once looking through the window of a shop that had hand watches on display. My jaw dropped when I saw that one of them was worth more than 1000$. Then I looked up and saw that the shop was named Swarovski. I seriously wish these people would get robbed of their pretentious expensive shit. I mean imagine the look of the thief's face when he realizes he just stole an object worth thousands. |

Oh, yess! It would be great if they made a bit of thinking for a change!
Or alternatively, it would be great if they could only copy-paste on their own foreheads... not on others' (either alive or unborn)! |

Fashion is not stupid. Fashion is just a creative endeavor like so many others. What is stupid is to follow trends.

...and that's exactly the sense in which i've used the term. "fashion is a general term for a popular style or practice" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fashion I never said designing clothes was stupid. |

Fashion is like art, you can stare at it for hours and still think it beautiful while the next person comes along thinking it's a piece of crap.
In some societies you are also judged and catagorised based on what you wear, if your overall look is to dark and goth with black nailpoilish then you are judged as Satanist. To much of this or that then you are right wing and so forth. Wake up and see the individualism people.... Take myself, I get up in morning with hair sticking in all the directions possible and compare my "natural styling look" to some dudes on TV with same look achieved via artificial hair products, why are they deemed fashionable and I'm not ? |

That was so fucking entertaining that I had to read it twice! I was driving through the University of Oregon campus today and the same thought came to me-the new thing is these thick black tights that the girls wear...it's like a rat infestation. Of course, I was a follower at their age as well.

Take a look at the next big thing in men's fashion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1_FqB_4nyI
Pretty funny, but not sure if I'd wear that bare legged or with shorts. Maybe under pants for comfort and warmth during the cold weather.
By the looks of it fashion is going back into history and eventually men will look like this:
Who knows, maybe it'll catch up
