02-02-2016 @Irina Laconic, eh? Impressive vocab word, girl, for a non-native English speaker. What other feats do you perform that would be as impressive? If you are familiar with the actual works of J.R.R. Tolkien, especially the Silmarillion, before all of the badly done movies and rot, you know that the Elves and Dwarves, especially the Elves, could live very, very, long lives of beauty and peace unless subjected to decapitation or something similar, and even then continued on across the sea in the forbidden land in similar lives. But Eru (god) gave Man, who had lesser abilities and mental and physical resilience, the *gift* of Death, so that there would be an end to his uniquely difficult toil and labor, and where, if anywhere, he went from there was a secret known only to Eru. Interesting fantasy take on the realities of human life from a Catholic writer. Death, bad breath and all, may be the worst friend you'll ever have. Can you imagine thousands of years of life into your dotage instead? |

I use this word in Ukrainian quite often, it sounds as 'lakonichno', I liked it ever since I heard this cute legend: After invading southern Greece and receiving the submission of other key city-states, Philip II of Macedon sent a message to Sparta: "If I invade Laconia you will be destroyed, never to rise again." The Spartan ephors replied with a single word: "If" |

05-02-2016 @Irina or any reasonable person lurking... A concept came up in a discussion and I thought I would get your thoughts (I won't taint yours with mine) if you are willing to engage in some quick mental masturbation…To you, which is the worse act, rape (gender unimportant) or planned conception? Why? |

Well this one's easy! Ehem... not. I'll tell you what makes rapists worse: the perpetrator knows it is nobody's wish to get raped, that he will cause suffering, that he's only doing it because he's horny. Of course, to be fair, a lot of them will justify it by blaiming the victim, but it takes more mental gymnastics to excuse a rape - in our Western society, the way it was up until today at least, who knows what millions of migrants from an "uncovered = asking for rape" culture will do to it in some time - than to excuse a birth. Birth is praised, advertized, etc and the harms it causes are often indirect: not inflicted directly by a parent onto the child, but by life itself, unless it's failing to abort a fetus with birth defects that are detected during pregnancy. So rape is more ill-motivated from the get go. If everyone generally agreed that birth is a crime and causes suffering - the way it is with rape - then having children in such society would require much more ill intentions, it would have made rationalization of this act that much more difficult and so then it would have been a worse crime. Similarly, even if you think eating pork is tantamount to eating 3 year old children because their intellect level is about the same etc etc, until people live in a society where majority frowns upon this, they're not horrible people, they're people of their times. African mothers cutting clitorises off their daughters with no anestheisa are not especially evil, they're just dumb conformists like people everywhere. Rapists in our society know it is a crime, still do it. If you're asking which act has more grievous consequences - depends. Rapes differ, lives differ. Some dumb people could be born and go thru life relatively easy, others will suffer greately. Some rapes are 2 minutes of discomfort and disgust, others are vicious horrible traumas for life. |

05-02-2016 @Irina A selfish request, Irina... I love your accented English, not all accents in English are so pleasing to my ear. However, I would love to hear you speak Ukrainian or Russian, maybe a little secret message in a subsequent video, sort of an easter egg for us subscribers? |
|
06-02-2016 @Irina Great, thanks, a short story, maybe one known to English speakers, or not, or a poem, whatever suits you. There isn't much opportunity to hear anything but Spanish and English here in Texas, sometimes, rarely, in very old people, children of 1800s immigrants, German. Not that much else. Of course, news snippets of Putin talking, but whatever. To me, I don't consider much the culture or what is legally considered a crime, or the intent of the perpetrator, etc. merely the harm done. So with that yardstick, procreation is the more destructive act IMO, as it is a necessary prerequisite for all the other suffering that may occur in a life, including possible rape. Not here, no rape potential. Rape is just one of many insults possible to a created being, a subset of suffering in existence. It is sad that most people don't see childbirth as a crime, but it doesn't affect the actual harm done, merely people's motivation and perception of it. |

07-02-2016 I've learned something new today; namely that comments less than 30 characters long aren't allowed to be submitted. On the plus side, the rejection notice was accompanied by a pre-redhead Rinky Dink pic, so the universe once again finds balance.... Oh yeah, nearly forgot my original reply: "Yup. " |

Dick O'Brick submitting less than 300 symbols is mighty suspicious, we might have an imposter or a body snatcher among us! |
|
08-02-2016 It's part of my new 'international man of mystery' persona. In fact, I'm thinking of changing my name to Dick O'Lakonichno. |

08-02-2016 Yeah, the site gets a bit funky with less than 30 characters, and as a matter of course I have to hit submit twice to post, so figure someone without a computer science degree coded up this site. SeГ±or Brick, it has been a while. I think Irina needs new angles on topics before we will see her smiling self back on video. Maybe a cruise towards actual implementation of AN principles, i.e. who the best audience would be, best approaches, etc. etc. In other words, how to make AN actionable. Maybe there are other topics that are interesting, like how to live your life as an AN, or maybe CookinВґ with ВґRina (how to live on a dollar a day using the cheese in your cheesy apt.) or Myth Busters Debunking Your Life with guest host Irina Dahling. I saw this sentiment on the interwebs, ВЁI was arguing with my mom and she called me a son of a bitch, so I hit her, because no one talks trash about my mom!ВЁ |

08-02-2016 Hey there, El CapitГЎn! Miss me? Have you been playing nicely while I've been gone? Not been harassing Irina too much I hope? In keeping with the demotivational nature of her latest blog post I've been languishing in a constant state of apathy and really cannot find the impetus to do anything at all. Everything's pointless and I've pretty much run out of steam. The hamster wheel of pleasure and pain has totally lost its allure and (present company excluded) dealing with other fuckwit humans is just too much work. Don't mistake this admission for depression or self pity. I've been there and done that. They're too much work as well. From an evolutionary standpoint I'm a waste of resources - a dull, slimy fungus creature that has just enough energy to lift forkfuls of food to my mouth and then a few hours later to slither up to the toilet to briefly say hi to it again in its new aromatic form before giving it a funeral at sea. This is the cycle I'm caught in until nature finally gets its act together, calls time on the debacle and then too flushes me from existence. With your inherent American optimism I see you're still fighting the good fight. Sorry, but to me it's an impossible war to win and I'm done with it. No intellectual - or even emotional - arguments are going to stop nature's blindly evil will to festoon every last millimetre of this planet with crying, screaming, blood sucking parasites. So instead of trying to put out the fire I'll sit at home and watch it rage outside my window until there is no fuel left to consume and it dies a natural death. We can but hope that nothing rises from the ashes. Now that I've cheered everyone up ( ), let me address your comments... Anything with Ukraine's high priestess would be worth watching. I especially like the 'CookinВґ with ВґRina' idea. Just a couple of problems I foresee: http://uriupina.com/funny-cute/smoked-beans-recipe & http://uriupina.com/misc-mix/bad-luck-burnt-clay ... Maybe a 'Rina Reviews Restaurants' show would be a better bet. |

Sad that you're in some gloomy (-ier?) phase. Me I'm still getting pleasure from buying shoes and shirts and bags. Maybe because I've never had more than 2-3 pairs of shoes per season. Or maybe it's just because I, as a woman, have been biologically programmed to desire shoes... |
|
10-02-2016 I'm really not gloomy at all. Numb is probably the best word to describe me.... That's numb with an N, Kirk, not a D. quote:
Me I'm still getting pleasure from buying shoes and shirts and bags. Maybe because I've never had more than 2-3 pairs of shoes per season. Imelda Marcos can rest easy that she doesn't have a rival for her crown just yet then. |

10-02-2016 I never liked shopping nor buying things. Always feel horrible when I have to do it. Nothing is usually built well, costs a lot, breaks down quickly, and is usually at a great cost to the environment and to some poor child's education. If I do buy something, I think about it a very long time beforehand to ensure it is needed, then buy the best built oldest one I can find. As an example, my phone is from 1929, works great, has doubled in value in 10 years. Voice only, of course. |

28-02-2016 Irina,Have you ever thought about what is a good age to kick the bucket? I work around old people and there are a ton of them in the U.S. There are a ton more coming in the next 20 years. Quality of life for people over 80 usually sucks, although there are exceptions. My Grandmother lived to 102 and was pretty healthy most of the time. Women live longer than men generally. I know this is especially true in Ukraine. Anyways, I think 80 years is plenty for me. Hopefully I'll get there. 2063 |

It all depends. Not only on how well you feel at that age but on whether there are people who depend on you... Not that you are obliged to stay alive as long as all your relatives are, after all, who said you should be the last one to leave, but that's something to consider. Women do live longer than men in Ukraine, just shows you once again how irresponsible men are, getting out so early leaving their sposes But the quality of life in Ukraine sucks, and the duration is also considerably shorter than in US, it's about 70 years old, as opposed to almost 79. But most importanly, retirement age here is a couple of decades in poverty, meaning counting pennies to pay the bills and buy food and meds, that's it. Almost no entertainment whatsoever, much less travel. Just sit there and watch tv till you die.(( |
